May We Present Trevor Morgan...

01.22.2010

9 lbs 7.5 oz 21 in

Wow! We are a family. It still seems quite surreal. I can’t believe that we have been entrusted with this absolutely amazing little man. He is so precious. So far, he has been an extremely content baby. He likes nothing better than to sleep in his mommy or daddy’s arms, along with eating and needing diaper changes nonstop. Trevor is quite a little Houdini, managing to escape even the tightest of swaddled blankets with little effort. He makes the funniest faces, especially his "concerned" face.

He was born last Friday at 4:25 pm via cesarean delivery. We went into the hospital expecting to me to stay awake for the birth. Unfortunately, the anesthesiologist wouldn’t perform a spinal due to complications with my back as a result of a car accident a couple of years ago. So that meant that I would have to be put out under general anesthesia, and we wouldn’t meet him until after the surgery. I was scared, nervous, anxious, and every other feeling you could imagine. Trevor was born with a very concerned look on his face. He was still not quite ready to make an appearance.

I came to in the recovery room with Brian holding Trevor. I had to wait about 30 minutes before my pain medication kicked in and I was lucid enough to keep my eyes open to meet him. Trevor was bright-eyed, and remarkably alert. After a while we were wheeled out to the hallway where met with our families briefly to say hi. We were then whisked down the elevator to our new home for the next few days. The nursing staff at the hospital was amazing. They took great care of us during our weekend stay. It was nice for us to stay together as a family and get to know each other a little better.

It is amazing to see how much he grows and changes daily! Stay tuned for more updates.

This pregnancy is coming to an end...

It was decided today, at my doctor's appointment, that I will be having a c-section tomorrow afternoon. The little guy doesn't appear to be so little anymore, and it makes more sense to schedule a c-section as opposed to trying to induce a non-existent labor. Oh well, such is life. I am not going to lie...I am a little nervous about having surgery, but know that the outcome will be more than worth it.

Unfortunately, due to H1N1 concerns, the hospital policy prohibits visitors in the mom and baby rooms during the postpartum stay at the hospital. I know that there are many people we would love to have with us to meet little Trevor at the hospital, but it is out of our control. There will be plenty of time to meet the little guy and catch up once we get settled in at home.

Weeks 37-Delivery: Watermelon

"At week 37, your pregnancy is considered full term, meaning bay is likely to thrive after birth. Baby spends these last weeks in preparation for the outside world...meaning careful refinement of the blink, suck, inhale and exhale. Meconium, which you'll probably find in the first diaper, is accumulating in the intestines. If (okay, as) you consider giving birth, consider what it's most like for the little one. During the journey out of your womb, baby will produce more stress hormones than any other time in life," (theBump.com).

I can't help but notice that the lines on the outside of the watermelon look like green stretchmarks...Poor watermelon. I feel your pain. Don't listen to anyone if they try to tell you to rub cocoa butter or any other lotion/oil on your stretched out skin...you are just going to have to live with them.

Weeks 33-36 Honeydew

"Baby's senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through your (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, baby can now recognize and react to different songs... time to start practicing your lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and you may notice baby descend into your pelvis at the end of the month," (theBump.com).

Anniversary

In response to a request about getting pictures of "real" people on this blog, I decided to post a picture Brian took of me and my belly on our anniversary. I dislike having my picture taken in general, so it makes sense that I haven't posted any of us on this blog yet...

We had just gotten home from a delicious dinner that I could barely eat half of. The view from Stanley and Seafort's is amazing. I can't wait to go back for our next anniversary. I think we will make it a tradition.

Weeks 29-32 Squash

"Baby's energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you've also probably noticed -- they don't necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments," (theBump.com)

Weeks 25-28 Eggplant

"Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes." (theBump.com)
